Registration for Mid Fairfield 2010-11 Beginner Hockey program is now open to all kids at birth years 2005 and 2006.  We will also accept 2003 & 2004 birth years that have been in our program or have siblings at older ages in the program. Beginner Hockey runs from late September through March.

About The Program
The majority of children in this program will be 2005 and 2006 birth year children.  If you have a 2003 or 2004 child who has been in a MF program or has older siblings playing for MF or the CT Stars, they are also welcome but should have some prior experience.
 
Our Beginner program is designed to teach the fundamentals of ice hockey with a heavy emphasis on skating, edge control, starts and stops, crossovers, pivots and backward skating.  As the skaters develop, they will learn puck handling skills and have occasional cross-ice scrimmages. Children may stay in the Beginner Hockey program for 1 or 2 more years depending on their age and individual skill level. Beginner Hockey sessions are 55 minutes long and will be on Saturdays or Sundays.  Program cost is $995.
 

On Ice Instructors:
 
Phil McElaney- Coach Phil has over 30+ years of playing hockey as well as 15+ years of coaching and instructing experience. He has been involved in teaching all ages from Beginner/Snow Plow Sam to High School and Adult hockey. Coach Phil grew up playing through the Mid Fairfield organization and has been involved over the past nine years with Beginner Hockey, Mite House and our Mite/Squirt/Pee Wee travel teams. In addition to assisting with the Beginner Hockey program this year, Coach Phil is also a practice coach for the MF Squirt Major team.
 
Gregg Zegras:  30+ years of hockey experience, played collegiately at Geneseo State and has coached MF Beginner and Mite programs since 2003.

Lance Marciano:  30+ years of hockey experience, played college hockey at Yale University. Coached Mites at Mid Fairfield since 2004 and will be the Head Coach for MF Mite Major.

Mid Fairfield is proud to participate in the US/NYS Hockey Players Support Our Troops Campaign. This grass-roots program, started by a hockey coach on Long Island, raises funds to help military families in the area who have lost family members serving in the armed forces of the United States. Participating Mid Fairfield teams will wear the campaign’s flying eagle patch on their uniforms in recognition of their support for our troops.
